John Alley

John AlleyJohn Alley, Principal Keyboard Player of the London Symphony Orchestra, began his musical training as a chorister of Westminster Abbey and later studied at the Guildhall School of Music under James Gibb.

In his early career he worked as an accompanist and chamber musician. He is now one of the most sought-after orchestral pianists.

After working extensively with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in their seasons at the Promenade Concerts, John was appointed to the London Symphony Orchestra in 1994.

He has worked with many of the top British orchestras and chamber ensembles. He has played under such composers and conductors as John Adams, Luciano Berio, Pierre Boulez, Hans Werne Henze, Oliver Knussen, Witold Lutoswaski, André Previn and Sir Colin Davis.

John Alley has recorded extensively, and most recently Stravinsky's Petrushka and John Adams' Death of Klinghoffer with the London Symphony Orchestra, Engine by Magnus Lindberg with the London Sinfonietta, and Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste by Bartok with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe under Nicolas Harnoncourt.
