Val Goldsack is a self-taught musician who has been writing songs for fifteen years, first for her own church family, later as a resouce for prayer groups, and now for the church at large.
This probably explains why her songs can be used in such a variety of situations - in services, prayer groups, meditation and most certainly for soothing listening. Val is a liturgical composer of contemporary psalm settings, canticles, sacred songs, a singer & guitarist and a member of the JHN Group who produce a series of tapes and CD of Morning & Evening Prayer - the prayer of the church.
She has worked as a pastoral musician in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Middlesbrough since the 1970's - encouraging both young musicians and singers in their parish music groups and also, assisting with liturgical music for the mass in many parishes around the Diocese throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
'Playing the guitar,' she says, 'always makes you in demand by people who want to be led in prayer.' Val values her music ministry highly, especially her work with young people.
Colin Mawby, who helped to produce her CD 'Light Divine' says of Val's voice: 'It is quite unique in its alto quality and its sense of spirituality - a new and exciting sound. The music is obviously rooted in prayer and a love of God. I found it very soothing to work with Val.'
