  1. An excellent pantomime, a great way to bring people to Christ! Review by Director Jez
    Star Rating

I have produced this pantomime twice in two different churches in which I have been fortunate enough to be asked to work with drama. I find the script to be a wonderful expression of the Christian Christmas story, maintaining the integrity of Mary, Joseph and (of course) Jesus. In fact none of the characters are humiliated .
I find that this pantomime is a wonderful way to make those of us who have been Christians for many years think about the Christmas story afresh - something which (after you've heard it for many many years) can be difficult.

From producing this pantomime we have brought several families in to the two churches where it has been produced, which is a wonderful testament to the power of the work and the Lords hand in it. Non church goers find it accessible, and that it makes the Christmas story come alive.

I would whole-heartedly recommend this pantomime.

  2. UNCHRISTIAN Review by WHITELEY

IF YOU WANT TO PRODUCE A COMEDY ABOUT THE NATIVITY THEN THIS ONE IS FOR YOU, IT WILL APPEAL TO THE SECULAR AMONG YOUR AUDIENCE AND PERHAPS EVEN THE CYNICAL WHO BELIEVE THE STORY OF CHRIST IS A BIT OF A PANTOMIME.
WE HAVE HERE A PANTOMIME HORSE. WIDOW TWANKY THE INNKEEPER.SOME GANGSTER RAPPERS (THANK GOODNESS THEY DONT MENTION DRUGS) I DONT REMEMBER ANY OF THESE CHARACTERS FROM THE BIBLE. KING HERROD IS PORTRAYED AS A BIT OF A JOKER WHO IS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT CHILDREN HIDING SWEETS RATHER THAN MURDERING THEM ,WHICH WE ALL KNOW HE DID. IF CHILDREN NEED TO BE SOLD CHRISTIANITY IN SUCH A TRITE WAY TO MAKE IT PALATABLE THEN PERHAPS WE SHOULD LEAVE CHRISTMAS TO SANTA AND CONSUMERISM.

Thank you again for your further comments, please see our previous response. - Kevin Mayhew Publishers (Posted on 17/12/2010)

  3. UNCHRISTIAN Review by richard
    Star Rating

THE NATIVITY IS NOT A COMEDY. THIS ADAPTATION IS UNCHRISTIAN AND GIVES CHILDREN MISINFORMATION ABOUT THE HISTORICAL FACTS ABOUT THE BIRTH OF CHRIST. KING HERROD, IN THIS PLAY IS CONCERNED THAT WIDOW TWANKY(DONT REMEMBER HER FROM THE BIBLE) IS HIDING SWEETS.... NO MENTION THAT HE ORDERED THE MURDER OF THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN.
ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS PRODUCTION IS A GANGSTER RAP SONG....WE ALL KNOW WHAT THIS SORT OF MUSIC REPRESENTS IN MAIN THE STREAM....DRUG DEALERS.
TO DETRACT EVEN FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH ABOUT THIS WONDERFUL EVENT, WE HAVE A PANTOMIME DONKEY. IF CHILDREN HAVE TO BE SOLD CHRISTIANITY IN SUCH A TRITE WAY TO MAKE IT PALATABLE. THEN I THINK WE SHOULD JUST LEAVE CHRISTMAS TO SANTA CLAUS AND CONSUMERISM. THE KIDS AT MY SONS SCHOOL WORKED SO HARD AT THIS PRODUCTION. UNFORTUNATELY THE CHRISTIAN MESSAGE WAS SADLY LOST .

Thank you for your comments, we appreciate all feedback. We are sorry you feel this way, however this musical was written in a light-hearted fashion as an alternative to the traditional nativity and not as an insult to the original. We have found that schools enjoy the opportunity to do something different and that, especially with young children, the original nativity can be too much. This is not to say that children should not know the traditional story, but with this title we aim to teach children the principals and morals of the story in way which makes it fun and current. With regards to Widow Twanky hiding sweets, we believe the portrayal of thousands of children being murdered might be upsetting for children and therefore the hiding of the sweets is representative of this. We also believe that stereotyping rap music is unfair, there are many Christian rap artists and the genre is growing ever popular. Christianity does not need to be sold to children in a trite way, but in an ever changing world different options need to be available to spread the message. - Kevin Mayhew Publishers (Posted on 17/12/2010)
