Perhaps the thousandth prayer should be one of thanks to the author for compiling this valuable resource! Review by Geoff Brammall - The Reader Publication
Star Rating
The 999 prayers in the collection cover almost every imaginable occasion. Although there is no index, the overall structure of the book is clear, beginning with the liturgical year and saint's days and moving through a range of topics and occasions. Sub-headings allow individual topics to be found easily. All the prayers are the author's own composition. Written in a modern idiom, the style is relaxed while still being reverent. The forms of address to God that begin many of the prayers are particularly striking and original. e.g. God of speech and sigh; God of partnership and promise; Liberating Lord). While each prayer stands alone, they could also be adapted for use in intercessions at the Eucharist. The book is accompanied by a CD-Rom containing the text of all the prayers that would allow them to be inserted into a printed service sheet (subject to copyright of course). The cost might make it a resource for the parish, rather than the individual reader. Perhaps the thousandth prayer should be one of thanks to the author for compiling this valuable resource!
