Quick Overview

A plain-English, easy-to-follow course
Play Guitar! Is a friendly, step-by-step guitar method which makes learning fun. No previous musical experience is required and as you progress through each chapter, you will develop a broad range of skills essential to the contemporary guitarist including: tuning up, music reading, single not technique, chord vocabulary, rhythm guitar techniques, scales, improvisation, music theory. These skills are consolidated through classic guitar repertoire and specially written traditional and new pieces. A free CD featuring superb backing tracks enables you to sound like a guitarist in a professional band. The tracks are recorded in stereo, with the melody panned to the left and rhythm guitar to the right. This enables you to hear the complete track before playing either the lead or rhythm part.

Iain's Endorsment Review by Luke H

Pete Kershaw has produced an excellent, thorough and easy to follow course for the complete beginner guitarist. The book enables the student to develop the most important skills necessary for contemporary guitar playing in a straightforward, fun and very natural way and it is particularly good to see ear training and improvisation introduced so early on.

The backing tracks are great and the student will also benefit from the fact that all the pieces and exercises are performed in specific and relevant styles and that each style is clearly labelled. The inclusion of real tunes, such as Peter Green’s Black Magic Woman, is a real bonus.

I think this book will enable the student to improve rapidly both their guitar playing and musical awareness. (Posted on 27/04/2010)
