The prayers are thoughtful, well-targeted and useful for regular occasions, for celebrations, to reflect on a tragedy or to mark a new term: Sunday intercessions, prayers at a PCC, for a new headteacher or parish priest, for a pupil or teacher in school who has died. And there are arrow prayers for personal use: "Be close, be near; take away my fear!"....[These prayers] will find their place as a resource for manny educationalists. (Posted on 27/04/2010)

Prayers are said in schools and colleges, for many different reasons. It May be the first assembly at the start of a new term, the beginning of the day or the annual sports day. It could be a special occasion like a speech day or a welcome for a new head teacher. Prayers are said in celebration of happy occasions, or to mark tragic events in the life of a school, college or university.

Prayers for Education is a small, but valuable book with a wide-ranging collection of prayers. As well as prayers for specific occasions there are graces, prayers for churches and intercessions, and prayers for the school assemblies and all age worship for the particular times in the Church's year.

These prayers can be used for inspiration, or as a template to create your own prayers, although they could just as easily be us taken straight from the page into your own situation. They are clear and straightforward, and written in language which is gracious and lacking in cliche.

The only quibble with this book is its title. Prayers for Education sounds like a book which will only be of use to teachers. Its usefulness goes much further than that.

It is a great resource for anyone praying in a setting involving children or education, wherther teachers, clergy, Readers or parents, and is the sort of book to return to again and again. (Posted on 27/04/2010)
