Truly amazing! Review by Dr Gordon Atkinson
Star Rating
Dr Nixon, apart from providing last verse harmonisations has written preludes, postludes and processionals. In choosing hymn tunes associated with the Church Year one could say she has 'all bases covered'.

To quote Eric Routley, last verse harmonies must be done with 'restrained excellence, and without any sign of the congregation being thrown off course'. This is, assuredly, the case in these last verse harmonisations.

An Introduction to each hymn is given, alternative harmony for verses, an interlude leading to the final verse harmonisation. Concluding each hymn is a setting which can be played as a prelude, postlude or during the offering. Bagatelle, Berceuse, Musette, Nocturne, Fanfare, Trio, Trumpet Tune, these titles illustrate the variety of styles available.

Meticulously crafted, this collection fills a gap in the organist's armoury.

June Nixon's contributions to church music are well-known. Hymns Amazing is another pinnacle.
