William Lloyd Webber (d. 1982), hailed as "one of the finest all-round musicians" of his century in Britain, led a distinguished academic career as Director of the London College of Music and Professor at the Royal College of Music. Also a renowned organist, he composed extensively in a highly romantic style, showing influences of Franck, Sibelius, and Rachmaninov. His works drew significant praise; his orchestral tone poem Aurora was called "skillfully and sumptuously scored" and "sensuous," while his Missa Sanctae Mariae Magdalenae was lauded for its "beautiful, deeply-felt writing" and "instinctive feeling for words and choral colouring."
