His extensive list of recordings include Schumann' s Dichterliebe, Schubert' s Die Schöne Müllerin (first choice in Building a Library, BBC Radio 3) and, with the Sixteen Choir and Baroque Orchestra conducted by Harry Christophers, the complete set of Handel's Chandos Anthems, Purcell's The Fairy Queen and the Evangelist in Bach's St John Passion.
The Thames Television production of Britten's St Nicholas, with Ian Partridge in the title role, won the Prix Italia. He made his operatic debut at Covent Garden in the role of Lopas in Berlioz' Les Troyens conducted by Sir Colin Davis and subsequently recorded by Philips.
Ian Partridge is noted for his exquisite performance of Art Song and this book contains some of his favourites. It is a mixture of well-known and less well-known items; some are profound and all are superb and immensely enjoyable. Ian Partridge is one of our finest artists, consummate in his skill and insight. As a reviewer recently wrote of his performance of On Wenlock Edge: 'One wished the song cycle... could never have ended.'
