Accompanying downloads with PowerPoint presentation and many other resources. This book is aimed at Catholic schools and provides a step-by-step guide for children and young people to help them plan and lead their own collective worship. Written so that it can be used independently by upper Key Stage 2 and lower Key Stage 3, the book details the building blocks of collective worship and then explains how children and young people can use these building blocks to plan and structure their own act of worship.Patricia Ainge provides a wealth of resources to help them get started, from suggestions for Scripture readings to suit different occasions to ideas about how to explore these readings to find the message for today. While the bulk of the book is written for young people, there are two short sections for the adults that support them where, among other things, ideas are given for using the book with younger children, or as a class resource. A PowerPoint presentation to support this is found in the downloads that accompanies the book, together with many resources to print and use.Planning and leading collective worship is immensely satisfying for young people, enabling them to use their gifts and their own experience to explore their relationship with God. It also provides an opportunity to develop skills such as leadership and teamwork, as well as giving young people a means to respond to different moments in their lives. This book is an essential resource to help them do that. Although written from a Catholic perspective, the idea of the book is that it could be suitable for all schools, including non-faith schools.

While the whole of Scripture is important, neglected at our peril, certain verses capture our imagination or speak to us in a way that few others can begin to. Who can forget the words of the 23rd psalm, the parables of Jesus, or the wonderful teaching of Paul in 1 Corinthians 13 on the gift of love? These are just some of the countless passages to have encouraged, comforted, strengthened and inspired Christians across the centuries. We must, of course, beware of being too selective when it comes to reading the Bible, or we will wind up avoiding whatever might challenge our particular viewpoint, thus effectively closing our ears to anything that God might wish to say to us. He has an uncanny knack of speaking through the most unlikely of verses, stretching our horizons and disturbing the comfortable status quo. On the other hand, well-loved verses can remind us of the underlying realities of the gospel, offering reassurance in times of doubt, support in times of challenge and hope in times of despair. Some, indeed, become so familiar to us that they seem almost like old friends. We may even know them off by heart, yet their power to challenge, inspire and encourage remains undiminished, God continuing to speak through them in new and wonderful ways.In this short compilation I have drawn upon my book Daily Prayer and various volumes of my Bible Study series to offer brief reflections on 15 unforgettable passages from the Gospels, each supplemented by a simple closing prayer. The selection is inevitably a personal one, but I suspect many of the passages I have chosen will also feature among your own personal favourites. It is my hope that they will speak as powerfully to you as they have to me.Nick FawcettContentsGenesis 28:10-13a, 16-17 An unexpected encounterDeuteronomy 33:27 The everlasting arms of GodJoshua 1:1-6 I will be with youRuth 1:8-17 Voice of the outsider1 Samuel 17:43-45, 48-49 David and Goliath1 Kings 19:11b-13 The still, small voicePsalm 23 The Lord's my shepherdPsalm 139:7-12 A God here, there and everywhereEcclesiastes 3:1-8 A time for everythingIsaiah 6:1-8 Send meIsaiah 55:6-9 The God beyond usIsaiah 55:10-11 A God we can depend onEzekiel 11:17a, 19-20 A different heart and a new spiritDaniel 3:13-14, 16-18 The fiery furnaceHosea 11:1, 3-4, 8-9 A love that will not let me goAmos 5:18-24 An outer veneer

Tame Dog. Wild Wood. From award-winning children's author, Eleanor Watkins, this book introduces Christian hope to a younger audience. In the tradition of classic tales, such as Animals of Farthing Wood, this warm and heartfelt story can be used as an aid for children coming to terms with death and mortality._____________ Left alone by the roadside, Chas the puppy is rescued by a clan of kind-hearted badgers and learns how to survive in the wild. At first, the idea of hunting seems strange, but with the help of Sly the fox, he discovers the ways of the woodland and bravely faces a tough winter alongside his new animal friends.
