His works drew significant praise; his orchestral tone poem Aurora was called "skillfully and sumptuously scored" and "sensuous," while his Missa Sanctae Mariae Magdalenae was lauded for its "beautiful, deeply-felt writing" and "instinctive feeling for words and choral colouring."
