Edited by: Marian Hellen and George ReynoldsHummel's trumpet concerto was written in 1803 for the Viennese trumpet virtuoso Anton Weidinger (1767-1852) who had developed a fully chromatic keyed trumpet. The concerto was originally written in the Key of E but is nowadays more often played in Eb , so it can be comfortably performed on both Bb and Eb trumpets. This edition in Eb has parts for Bb and Eb trumpets.

Throughout his 30-year career as principal flautist of the opera orchestra of La Scala, Milan, Rabboni came in close contact with opera repertoire and singers of the time, and thereby gained a priviliged insight into the bel canto style. It is clear that Rabboni composed his Sonatas to explore different sonorities and phrasings, as well as to establish a better overall technique for the flute. Although at first they appear to be straightforward, these sonatas encourage the flautist to look beyond merely playing the notes, and to strive towards creating shapes and lines within the music, an approach which is often disregarded in favour of developing technique. Instruments: ManualsThese 30 pieces were written by Herbert Howells as piano sight-reading tests. They are, however, much more than visual traps for the unwary.By turns graceful, surprising, and touching, they are inventive miniatures wholly characteristic of the composer. Like the occasional pieces written for examination purposes by Ravel and Debussy, they have a unique value. They have been slightly adapted by Alan Ridout to make useful manuals-only pieces for organ.
