Tackling difficult subjects from the pulpit is not an easy task: it takes a degree of courage and sensitivity. Reluctance to risk such preaching often stems from simply not knowing how to go about it. There are many more difficult subjects than could be addressed in the first book of this series, so here are a further 72 topics from Abortion to Wealth, Fraud to Promiscuity, and even the contentious issue of Superstition. Sermons On Difficult Subjects

3 in stock Next Day Delivery Available*

There are at least two things that can be terrifying for a preacher - a blank piece of paper and a Scripture passage set by the lectionary that you really do not want to preach on. Just as the lectionary itself can produce difficulties, so can issues from life's experiences - experiences that we may not ourselves have had but which are certainly faced by many people. These difficult subjects present a challenge to the preacher who seeks to bring to them the Word of God, the Gospel message. This book offers a valuable resource for preachers who want to tackle these subjects and who are looking for help both in terms of background information and the light the Christian faith can shine on them. Each section deals with a different subject by offering a suitable biblical passage, some background information, ideas to help the preacher and a story that could be used as an illustration in the sermon. There is a concluding 'Thought to take away'. The contributors all have expertise or particular interest in the subjects they tackle and bring both knowledge and Christian insight. While following the same pattern, they bring their own style and approach which adds variety and flexibility. The sermon ideas are not intended as scripts to be preached from but as a stimulus for preachers to draw on in creating their own sermons - just the kind of help that the fear of the blank piece of paper looks for. Affirming His Presence

For over fifty years, David Adam has sought to affirm the presence of God by rejoicing each day in the fact that 'God is here' and with us wherever we are. Believing that prayer should involve the whole of our being, he decided to use hands and eyes as well as mouth, heart and mind. He would keep a 'prayer diary' and pen a prayer every day, using the time to focus on the love and presence of God. Many of these prayers were deeply personal, others were prayers relevant to the moment alone. He has shared some of these prayers with us in this book in the hope that they will encourage you to keep your own prayer diary which would provide your own special moment in the day for focusing on God. With a whole year's worth of such prayers, his book invites you to 'affirm the presence' each day and to rejoice in the love and closeness of God.

Key Stage 1 - 2The Storyteller includes 25 Bible stories, starting with Genesis and finishing with Acts. They are written primarily for 6-11 year olds in two forms. The first is to read aloud. The second is in skeleton format, with suggestions on the use of visual aids and other ways in which the listeners might be drawn into the story, allowing the storyteller to make the story their own and tailor it to their audience. Objectives and resources are given at the start of each chapter and can be included in the session to develop the theme highlighted in that story. The Storyteller is ideal for use in schools, junior church, mid-week children's clubs, holiday clubs or as part of all-age worship.
